The Rx.com Mod Team has created this Service Play sub-forum in order to supply an area for Rx Service Play Posters to expand upon their posting topics without creating a logjam in the main forum where the three principle threads are maintained..

Posters can track services here if they care to but we will need any trackers to do so in an accurate and civil manner. We did not create this area for posters to ridicule or bash any services..

You can also discuss who is hot and who is not. The general state of the pay for plays industry and any other subject or topic related to service plays.

You can also create individual threads about specific services and discuss them freely but civilly. Again bashing and abusive treatment of any services will not be tolerated.

Please remember, this forum is not here for regular posters who cap their own games to post ther daily plays. Please use our individual sport forums to post your plays. Professional cappers (those that sell plays) must remain in the Site Promotion Forum.

The Rx.com will not tolerate posters that post false records of any services they track. Please be truthful if you decide to track a particular service.

Lastly The Rx Moderators are appealing to you our everyday posters to report any promotional threads or posts that are made by services or individual touts. No links or contact information to an individual service will be allowed. Just the name of the service. Please report any threads or posts that are promotional attempts by services and touts to use this forum to promote themselves..

Posters can easily report a promotional post by using the triangular Report-a-Post Icon at the bottom left of all post boxes. The poster name of any poster who reports a post that is out of line will be kept strictly confidential.

I will leave this thread open for a month to take questions and do my best to answer them. I will check in daily but am off on Wednesday and Thursday.

I hope this additional Service Play Forum will satisfy those posters that would like to widen the scope of topics relating to service plays and the industry in general to have their own threads. Mods will be liberal as possible regarding topics but this forum was specifically created to allow you more freedom to express your ideas regarding service plays and related subject matter. No off topic threads will be allowed.

Thank you, wilheim

4* MEMPHIS over MISSISSIPPI STATE

We will be a little more long-winded than usual here, but it helps to detail some key concepts about early-season handicapping, both from a Play On and Play Against standpoint. So let’s get to it.

Memphis has a chance to be vastly improved in a subtle way, and one that the markets are missing in this projection – the talent on hand is not all that bad from a program that went bowling after both the 2007 and 2008 seasons, but it was a case of Tommy West and his coaching staff literally losing the Tigers LY. When it became a foregone conclusion that the staff would be gone we saw little spirit or effort, and the result was a dismal 0-6 SU and 1-5 ATS slide down the stretch. It is that “spirit” aspect that we have detected such a major change in over the off-season. While the jury may be out on the tactical acumen of new head coach Larry Porter, who was a star RB for this program back in the early 90’s (2,194 career rushing yards), he was an outstanding recruiter at L.S.U. in his five years as an assistant, and there are no questions about his ability to bring enthusiasm to the table. We can use the words of starting LB Jamon Hughes to set the tone - ”Everybody’s mind-set is better. Last year there were a lot of players whose heads may have been in the game, but their hearts weren’t in the game. This year everybody’s heart is in the game.”

Of particular note from an attitude standpoint is the defense, which stopped competing in the middle of LY. Now former Southern Miss DC Jay Hopson has come on board, and from an energy standpoint there will be an immediate change. This, from starting FS Marcus Ball - "Coach Hop has had a huge influence. He's probably one of the smartest guys in the building. He's pure football. He's one of the first ones here and usually the last one to leave. He makes you figure out if you're out here for the love of the game or just to be part of the show. One thing he always tells us is you're fighting for your brother next to you. We always break the huddle by shouting '11 brothers.' We're 11 brothers, and you'd do anything for your brother."

So Memphis will be better, largely because Memphis will be trying. With a veteran OL (all starters back) making life easier for new starting QB Cannon Smith, there is also the ability to make plays. Smith will turn 23 in October, a rare level of maturity for a SO, and having transferred back to his home town after a stint at Miami F., he brings confidence and legit talent to that position. And while the Tigers are still nothing special overall, in this pointspread range it is all about effort and enthusiasm, which they will bring. Porter is from Jackson, and Hopson played his college ball at Ole Miss, which means that the trip to Starkville can get their blood flowing.

We say that because it will not take all that much more than simply playing hard to stay inside this number. While the first game for the new staff at Memphis brings a major focus, for State it is an entirely different setting. Dan Mullen faces a huge S.E.C. home showdown vs. Auburn in front of the ESPN cameras on Thursday night, before going to L.S.U. the following week, and then hosting Georgia. As such, his focus is to simply get through this one as quickly as possible, with no interest in getting a scoreboard margin, as he hopes to avoid injury to any key personnel.

But could they even get a margin anyway? While Mullen brought some new life to the Bulldogs LY, the talent stock is nothing special, particularly having to replace Anthony Dixon at RB, and the red-shirt SR’s have never been favored in this range in their careers, going 0-3 ATS the only times that the line reached double figures. This is an offense that lacks quick-strike ability, which makes it difficult to build an early margin, and his intentions late are to merely work the clock and get his players to bed. That makes this far too high of a pointspread, with the talent gap not as wide as the market perceptions, and the favorite bringing no intent to go for the jugular.

NINE-RATED GAMES:

MICHIGAN STATE (-22) vs. Western Michigan—Kirk Cousins (19 TDs vs. 9 ints. LY) gives Spartans a big QB edge over Western soph Alex Carder (only 27 YP in 2009)...

WASHINGTON (+3) at Byu—Time for Jake Locker to live up to his billing and to atone for his costly celebration penalty in 2008 meeting; BYU to use both jr. Riley Nelson & freshman Jake Heaps at QB...

CLEMSON (-24) vs. North Texas—Tigers happy to have highly-regarded baseball prospect Kyle Parker back at QB; speedy Clemson defense should stifle Mean Green, who have been outscored 284-33 while picking up paychecks visiting five “power foes” the L3Ys.

MICHIGAN (-3) over Connecticut: The Huskies are our sleeper pick for the Big East, but in the Big House they get stung by Rich Rodriguez's last stand. Word is RichRod has to win 10 to even have a hope of keeping his job, which could go to UConn coach Randy Edsall. UConn lost five games last season by a total of 15 points. It will keep it close until the fourth quarter when one missed assignment costs a covering TD for the Wolverines.

North Carolina (+3) over LSU: A lot of variables should steer you away from this neutral-site game in Atlanta. The Tar Heels have suspended star DT Marvin Austin for violating team rules and WR Greg Little is being investigated by the NCAA for possible improper contact with agents. But both have been practicing with the second team, so the Tar Heels, who have the fastest defense in the nation, should be ready. We like Butch Davis and the Tar Heels to be nasty dogs and cover, but this could be the first crack in a long disappointing season.

NOTRE DAME (-11) over Purdue: The Brian Kelly era begins in South Bend with a blowout over the Boilermakers. Side bet: NBC misses at least one play when it doesn't get back in time from a commercial break to keep up with the fast-paced Irish. Give the points as ND pours it on.

TCU (-13½) over Oregon State: TCU QB Andy Dalton has had all summer to think about his awful performance in the Fiesta Bowl. Oregon State has had all summer to find a new starting QB, Ryan Katz, who gets torn apart by a frenzied Horned Frogs 4-2-5 defense in Cowboys Stadium.

FLORIDA (-35) over Miami of Ohio: The John Brantley era begins with Tim Tebow's replacement throwing short passes to Jeffery Demps or Chris Rainey and watching them blow past the RedHawks.

Texas (-30½) over RICE: QB Garrett Gilbert completed passes against Alabama in the BCS title game. Shredded Rice. Take the Longhorns.

OKLAHOMA (-34) over Utah State: Oklahoma scores Sooners, later and twice on special teams against overmatched Aggies, who gave up 52 to Boise State last season.

ALABAMA (-37½) over San Jose State: Mark Ingram (knee) is out. Trent Richardson is in. The Spartans came a long way to be rolled by the Tide.

Washington (+3) over BYU: The Cougars are breaking in a new starting QB (Riley Nelson or Jake Heaps). The Huskies have one of the nation's most dynamic and experienced QBs in Jake Locker. Lock in a Washington upset.

Wisconsin (-20½) over UNLV: Brutally physical Badgers will be 6-0 when they play host to Ohio State on Oct. 16. This is a long-shot national championship team. Take them now at 40-to-1.
